Drive Safely
First welcome you to Fort McMurray. ; {# \/ X3 a& m
Second some suggestions for you if you decide to drive the deadest highway in Canada:* W! H! O8 n T/ C* J# l0 m1 G/ B
1. Drive slowly, take your time, do not pass any car if you have enough time. There are 5 accidents in only one week early last month including 11 fatalities, 4 of the five accidents are head to head collisions. The fatalities includes 3 of my fellow co-workers in Suncor. And another 6 accidents last 2 weeks as well. All have fatalites....." z5 b' d/ a3 k* x& C. c- X
2. Leave Edmonton before 9:00am in the morning, even ealier, that will give you enough time to arrive Fort Mcmurray before dark. It takes about 6 hours for winter-driving from Edmonton to Fort Mcmurray, and the day will be dark before 4:00pm. Never try to drive in the night.
# @3 B% R {* b( m3.Remember most part of the highway 63 has only 2 lanes, one lane each direction, it is very difficult to see the yellow seperate line, make sure your head light is working properly and your car has enough windshield fluid. The section from wonder river to mariana lake, to Fort Mcmurray, total about 150Km is very slippy and has lots curves, the car is easily to lose control, most of the accidents happen in this section. Never speeding .......# k7 ]9 {% O9 r8 d3 ?7 \& w
4.I just checked "theweathernetwork.com", the weather from edmonton to fort mcmurray is not so bad in the coming few days, but make sure you will check the weather again before you leave.

The last, prepare well, drive safely, enjoy the winter driving, the view is awesome.... |
