This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.' h. K. g' c  `  }

- }7 r+ q. c# p1 M0 Y  J' \As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

: d6 J9 I' Q, g4 s- bReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:+ w9 ^$ W: ^. D6 j
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
: z% R- w! U+ h6 x; L•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements5 F$ ?& Z; d; A% |. k
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module& o# M6 j4 |$ X; @
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's. I0 s" Q9 j$ Y- S* M( J
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
) U- p! U+ D" H( o0 |Job Requirements:  
+ f1 C& s5 R8 a- k9 t3 i•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline* D/ X: N2 w9 o7 }
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset# r1 T5 U$ v. N9 Z- W1 G
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
2 C1 x1 |0 p8 _/ O0 s$ S" x* t4 [•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems4 n, h- I' _" u. P% k1 c1 D2 X
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets* m0 i3 {- p, i6 n
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
- E  v+ H8 ]1 h6 ^5 d  Z$ L- R•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
