siting: it is an upright spreading, usualy multistemmed small tree. it blooms much later than commen lilac, in early summer it is coverd with large cluster of cream colored flowers. the flowrs have a pleasnat honey like scent less intense than that of common lilac. the tree also has attractive deep green leaves and dark brown to reddish brown bark. it prefers full sun , at lease 6hours per day and soil wit good drainage. plants grow and flower best in fetile loam reich in organic matter, but they tolerate most soils. it make an excellent spciment, entry, or street tree. the dried seed heads make interesting additions to dried arrangement.
0 V& ~- [6 L6 _4 E, b8 ~0 {& Bcare: plant balled and burlapped and container grown plants in early spring. it prefer consistent moisture throughout the growing season , but once mature it can withstand drought, feed every spring with plant food, such as miracle gro, or an organic equivalent. prune to shape right after flowering. removing the flower heads right after bloomming will help the plant produce more blooms the nixt year. romove suckers at the base of the plant aat any time.

related species: ivory silk flowers at a young age and is sturdy and compact peking lilac is another late blooming lilac, althouth not at late as japanese tree lilac. it is a upringt. speading tree of 15-20' and produces cluster of small cream colored flowers with a mild honey scent. it is reliably hardy in zone 4.& k) b- e& m* y6 H% D3 T
