7 e1 H( c; _2 l7 }3 vDescription Electricians perform electrical inspection, maintenance, and repair activities on locomotives in the repair shop, on service tracks, or other railroad property. They have a good grasp of basic electronics, computer systems, fuel injector systems, and locomotive failures.
* t* ?( R) D9 b/ s6 E9 i/ xRequirements Electricians perform electrical inspection, maintenance, and repair activities on locomotives. They are also generally responsible for tasks such as: - repairing or replacing small components - monitoring electrical components - troubleshooting electrical problems - testing circuits and connections using electrical test equipment Other job requirements include: - following company safety procedures to maintain an overall level of safety awareness when operating in the work environment - understanding and/or providing written, graphic, and oral instructions - reading blueprints and revisions to documentation. - judging the condition of objects or parts for wear and or defects. - recognizing and distinguishing colours of light, wire, diodes, resistors, etc. - using tools such as a chisel, drill, fuse puller, and overhead crane Qualifications: - valid certification as Construction and Maintenance or Industrial Electrician - Apprentices - a least one year of post-secondary education in a related program of study. - good eye-hand coordination - ability to frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds - occasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds - ability to do physical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions - regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations Work is performed in a heavy industrial shop and outdoors as required with regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations. Candidates should expect to work weekends and shifts, especially nights and afternoons in support of a 24/7 operation. Candidates must be fluent in oral and written English and will be required to pass aptitude tests, an interview and company medical which includes visual acuity and hearing threshold tests.
