Roles and Functions
: d( d# }5 n$ F/ B: U yThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( @) ^- Y. c* ?8 ` a7 o8 Y. D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
# C! I& A6 L/ }operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
9 t7 h- R# E) A+ [; d( Z% I/ ^the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 \! i6 E; {: E& s
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: o1 P! T1 I. @) sboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
* V* m ?* j$ i8 Z/ ]+ G8 D3 tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ N& R1 m* J* B& N5 xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( U2 W; @; E p2 H2 f( D6 Vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 M' F7 c* a& r. Eall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the& y1 _# L( A8 X9 Y
officers of the Coalition
; `7 _( T; k9 p. m$ W& y: y. }1 V2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural4 _6 A2 s4 P' `( F3 ]2 F
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations! r6 }1 D: J8 U: `+ g
and public institutions
- o3 B8 x- z K8 m3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& C0 G) k/ ?. q% W* ?
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: W* z% z4 J6 [8 g: M4 D& E4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community! X4 D* v6 ]: D" y
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community# _2 X9 w/ b! Z

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic/ w: W' K& F( _. e' P) z: ?1 @- W, r
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

' \" G5 a0 v# T7 W" `: mwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
3 X) K1 ?- f8 B, p1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
+ D$ N5 P, t& _1 r. I" wregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
9 E" W$ t( t& q/ k6 s: adirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' p& L: ~, A' j1 {. }9 v- G- smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 k# M# o2 Y' j; }/ V- I8 M$ S8 _2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the7 G8 P+ u- ^2 f+ b4 d

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ p( n" a2 H+ M# u$ I6 G
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
; h' ]3 _" S- y9 Eimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# C2 H* i+ v6 V7 O4 \$ Q. Z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. {# S, M- C3 v& D2 x$ W8 X/ U {The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 q# F* s/ F+ u) iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 \8 i l! ?" s
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 Z. z3 }- H8 k8 dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ O9 [4 k9 `, n6 A& j' ^ Z' jfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
) i) T7 ]9 p' W9 ]directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ J& r5 Z6 I, Z0 f" H! ^
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; ^4 |' ]4 Q4 O7 _2 p( j) g: f5 o
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of) m8 _% o; W0 m
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 i. c$ Y! |/ l
policies already adopted3 `3 t; X# _0 e& ?/ B' v

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation0 l- r8 T6 `, `5 T6 W" ]3 v

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles
) u8 c) f7 L: G4 sof immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates
( Q7 h3 e0 b, z0 n6 ^* Zof funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers
$ f( ]" H1 X! M, ~3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an2 z# s: l2 C5 ], f- W

6. Public speaking skills. Media relations skills an asset

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power/ V& E1 ?' X* `

Pay Range & Terms
$ d& q( Q, j1 H% x- rThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience! v p: S) q4 p, H3 S
Employment Start Date: April 11, 2011
