The Community Liaison shall be responsible for developing a proactive approach to connecting urban Aboriginal community members and families with their local community leagues. Working with the urban Aboriginal community, the Community Liaison will be responsible to build bridges between the urban Aboriginal community & Edmonton community leagues. The ultimate goal will be promoting community league membership, programming, and engagement with all neighbours.$ Q5 @2 W6 k7 k, v6 j* h

Working collaboratively with the community leagues, the Community Liaison reports directly to the EFCL Community Development Officer.0 D% [( A. g" b) X

& g% G5 r: }& s% H% V% gA. The ability to establish relationships with urban Aboriginal individuals and families, communities, and other community resources.

C. The ability to formulate initiatives which support urban Aboriginal peoples’ involvement in the community league activities. % A u9 \1 e& d" b' J5 M- d/ Y
D. Enhanced level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. ! e0 w8 q$ {9 ?2 H
E. Strong mediation and conflict resolution strategies. ; }* R P l" ]3 J
F. Efficient, flexible work schedule.

Qualifications
& B. n9 Q. I2 U9 Q/ K
$ J: q: o# V9 I: W) |2 i• Diploma/Certificate from a recognized community college in Recreation Administration, Business, or Human Services is desirable
0 F! i$ e$ y$ K* ^3 w1 O8 i• Minimum 2 years experience working with the urban Aboriginal communities
' a; e2 o7 z! X# r5 G! @4 r+ b• Ability to speak a First Nations, Métis or Inuit language is an asset
" G V1 Q% E% {: P/ y• General knowledge, belief and interest in the community league system
+ A, U' ~3 L; u8 G0 Q• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Specific Job Components

! K5 J' b. k2 ^4 U9 O5 OThe Community Liaison shall perform tasks assigned by EFCL Community Development Officer. These tasks may vary from time to time with the evolution of the project. Some of the tasks may include but are not limited to:
6 }5 X" v; Y5 ?; l8 x9 C7 b• Establishing positive relationships with the urban Aboriginal communities
8 [" e( m c# O3 ^$ ~" U• Working with families and supporting them in understanding community league system and the need for involvement in the league programs and activities8 W4 R, }7 I, r- U9 G: h
• Creating proactive relationships with community and leagues; identify issues pertaining to accessing league programs
* F$ Y \* [3 G" D' \8 H* Y/ F• Attending league meetings and programs, identify issues families and community are faced with to access league programs 9 q; f. j1 \9 v9 `
• Visiting homes and providing league information, connecting families to the leagues, and facilitating membership and program registration / a: `# K2 @4 C/ l( u; E
• Leading and supporting families to attend league meetings and programs+ U; s& K% ]+ m+ Y) o2 F
• Developing effective communication links between the Aboriginal community, groups and community leagues 2 V4 ]0 E8 k3 t
• Working collaboratively with the leagues and other community resources that may have interest in the project
6 f; ]6 N+ n& N• Preparing a monthly progress reports and a final report5 z$ T3 X0 _" \

This is a contract position that will pay $ 17/ hours, plus $1000 to cover any expenses over the eight months. The expenses payment has to cover each worker mileage, computer and phone. Workers will be working from their homes, apart from attending regular meeting with the EFCL community Development Officer.
