T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
# T3 M4 P4 P9 W% D" [0 n6 P. hAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
0 f! t! Y2 Y5 }5 B# o/ T2 Uopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
- z, k9 B4 }0 D( ^  }interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, ; j: m% K& U. V# A4 q" b
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

; S( G: R& ?7 {  S0 J/ w+ pWhat will take place in the sessions?2 V, d% B4 s/ W9 l; Q5 S0 _( p
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
& _" i5 G6 A: l8 S6 V0 {; V, E1 \9 j/ J. |7 r
These activities will enable youth to:
9 q+ K7 x- d4 K4 d Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
, S6 @- w2 D- `, @) s9 E3 v5 D Learn how to access community services and programs
( s3 S8 M' O& X: C& `) O! _: Q Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

- G% k4 F( D1 G  t- t, ZProgram Schedule:
! a3 k8 g: x4 U: k3 rRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m., e  [5 p  B7 B) \6 }' Z
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
1 v" g/ b$ j1 N/ f( o                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
; e: z5 ^) \* c* @* A! G
, k) g, y; z: IWho can participate?8 J2 _; ?; p0 W, T7 E+ ], h
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.' {/ R8 }, p3 {

: r+ e8 s- M: [# k2 WWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
% P0 s$ j2 K5 Y, l- m8 ?$ HIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.+ y7 [4 M" W( I  ]  ^5 ~
8 I  q% B7 Z* l+ t

" s5 y! y& K! k9 n# b3 CVolunteer’s Duties:9 d6 P" T9 L7 T6 ]& L0 K

* I& a2 Q( ]# X( {' S Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
' Q% s; W1 G" u6 r; y- X2 W Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
  l" k$ L4 q) \9 `: l& h5 H9 A Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities$ t- `' v3 G; C# V* f  }" t& Q
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
/ b/ Y2 o. d- j1 j) l- W+ c Research activities related to the sessions’ topic; f( M6 a% W# h& i
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
7 P( y: `4 b5 e+ |& Y Assist in program planning
. B* v9 g3 B  q/ v4 ]9 B Be a role model
5 {" _+ \, a1 B' u# r- \; _" G- U6 W1 d
Volunteer Commitment:
8 n, K' i5 M5 o
- R4 s( b& R5 z# g On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)# P( z, ?) Q/ Y5 T8 d
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

% \; ~6 f- I" xAttitude/Skills Requirements:

) O0 E1 ?0 X* p$ u0 Z  ? Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
' m/ Q8 G1 F* h  b2 y3 q' S Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program, C. Y( O$ r+ S
 A team player+ E7 U( ?$ a7 q9 H2 J5 D
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
% v( R) e6 F. N Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
5 v! s: G; B8 k. d6 e9 b Willing to work with youth including youth at risk- a* y: z# Y/ V. W
! x* P; t0 T3 z% |4 r1 g8 S# |% z
