Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution0 L' V( P3 z& ]- j. q
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
: \; d3 ]8 s, i' I% c; gmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
, `5 i" p0 j2 C: Iin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
5 b T8 X! }$ N5 `allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject/ c2 K- ~, F9 L s
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
s+ V3 R$ w+ \; a* ~was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum: j) X: ^# T" C# C$ [( {% Y
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
% z* h' g, v# w0 U0 p* y. p, Vwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
# ~- |' l- n3 V# v/ uconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
- e1 O4 o: X& ?% R- |. c9 S/ i- Vbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
" g) H/ z Y% Y) ]thanks to the D800.9 Q& I+ }& \( }; O4 g3 v9 O* m
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
2 Q8 c2 I+ {# |8 z% d& J( I36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
9 z Y! T% O: h6 g7 z1 `7 s8 b# S! Irange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
: {8 o. j& y" c+ C. _the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a7 e; d+ g7 r t' {" ], [
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
- e1 L: U# H: O3 ]2 p$ ]9 Swell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
- J4 f5 u7 g) v3 }+ S: L5 a9 QAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
% b; w5 Y5 v) }; c% B7 s* ^has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is0 H+ G8 h* n9 T- k2 w( P4 f. k# C
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while7 }! f; r( i* z5 e- s9 c% G
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
; B. @/ j0 \8 Y# J6 }7 Zcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features* w) ^6 [; @$ q a& z; } a
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality- [/ B) w4 j) ]6 [$ o
prints and video.' l H* C) q$ _5 V* S4 a/ x; s6 F
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
5 t# t: ^0 |3 m0 s9 znot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models# i. a/ {1 Z0 B" f" O2 N: M
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using0 t+ Z- Z0 C4 g1 u# j
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first u' \! c8 P3 Y6 n: D8 Y
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws) K C R9 P$ y! R- ?
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of4 ?" ]/ r% s7 b: W
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
: l, W# G; e% U4 p: G& @ jam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as! }1 V& z* @! b- r: j' i
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
' H: f% i7 |. Bphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
' Z- o0 Y! A; k }" a/ l* w# Ctremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the6 X( e h" U7 q
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
) J: m5 y& T( ^9 |& Eis that now I will think differently about the images I make.
6 M4 m* v; R. X( a& E3 gAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,* \ ~& P/ q& w; ?$ ?, j9 U% ^
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal% b: R7 U8 h. u) Q4 F
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
2 I+ t" n6 }* Pthe high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
6 U8 a1 w+ V$ V, fcamera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till
+ O Z9 G0 s( }8 s u wnow. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions: X# R% G1 S' G$ z1 \
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior9 w8 J& ^( \) ?6 A
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
$ j4 O4 O7 \- n v8 o1 [architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they8 u$ s4 ^- N9 v% z( {' V
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly, L* n/ O6 d4 g0 S+ [2 c3 J
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility/ G- D* G+ G5 a
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional# h& ` |2 n% g+ _* s2 s4 B
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality) I2 W J- |/ e9 R/ k j t& M
to a new level. What a new companion!
