Responsibilities and Tasks

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations# Y, w- X1 U# J. j
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces( r( V& K0 `# N8 a
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planing, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
a: ~2 D, `; m- Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products
4 _ c/ V! L+ E3 {- Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together0 t: _4 I* c l* Y# l8 q
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools

- Troubleshoot, perform corrective action or minor repairs

- Completion of secondary school or a minimum of eight years work experience
1 ]- l" |3 U2 o3 W1 d2 m' F- Completion of a four-year apprenticeship or training program or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining
7 |5 B+ U+ _) q V# G- Skills in programming, set up, operation and maintenance of machine tools
9 q2 j2 `. b. O u9 t3 ]- Proficiency reading, interpreting and identifying errors on shop drawings% l0 r! X1 z! u# h% t( w( Q# u2 y
- A strong understanding of computer assisted drafting and manufacturing principles
