Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:2 f0 W8 N+ P' k1 B- A
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
8 @5 P r& A% R( M• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
- ]5 Q9 G! f; _• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.0 K% r! S: S0 M" v
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.' E7 @' p& ] b+ G6 d9 ~; O
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
: f1 i* Z% l! I. i" z3 c- s• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
- C2 [/ \9 [# ^! g• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
" g x4 D1 y' L/ [, @• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.- d+ | k& I: v7 o. v4 ?; f, y
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
9 F. L$ z& F A• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
: _) n6 h+ W+ M) T# e6 i2 J• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
9 B" g. D8 b( K) b• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights). N6 y2 g) K9 L \3 p( z) U# d
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
4 ]+ p; p7 C& \/ E7 r" K• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
! ]* u. @3 N' q$ a• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.7 Z& c# e) p' O' `& c/ m
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
' h* x- M8 A2 v8 B8 H* V• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application./ b; M% E5 C6 L) V( t
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration. c4 A* f# f9 u. j3 b
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
1 P+ R" N; m A7 C• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
' r2 p' W7 k) n. {6 t• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
b% m) l$ N# k- h$ L• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

# U0 j& w2 \$ P4 z# b& f/ @• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
: w! h3 v, g6 Z7 ^$ y! a; l+ z; H7 S• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
/ I1 J/ h8 x3 S1 U0 P* c+ C• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
& L& v$ R5 H& h• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
8 I' T1 G" u2 {$ V• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.9 Z; S7 v- L" a) b$ M3 X0 ?
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.# R- f4 d' y2 G* ?' }! g" t/ ]
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.5 g; E& j$ O1 ]' X$ ^; \
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.9 z9 _& A) h, x+ f- v) e) [- E
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.! r% W& v" e9 G7 p
