ACTION FOR HEALTHY COMMUNITIES (AHC) is recruiting students (preferably a member of a visible minority community, and/or of a Disability community) for three summer positions: A Community Initiatives Documenter, a Community Connector and a Volunteer Data Base Developer. We are a non-profit community development organization operating in central Edmonton.  We promote community inclusion as a strategy for increasing citizenship participation and action.  COMMUNITY INITIATIVES DOCUMENTER
The CI Documenter will contact and meet leaders of 30 Community Initiatives (mini-projects) to discuss and document their progress to date, facilitate a planning process for each CI to sustain their outcomes, and create a final document analyzing CI trends, strengths, learnings, and plans.

Education background: Health Promotion, Sociology, or related social/human sciences field

7 F7 ~6 a: K1 C1 g( TThe Community Connector will link our organization and its program participants to local resource providers and businesses under the motto “Healthy Communities are good for business”. The role involves developing and applying strategies to raise awareness of local businesses to partner with community groups to improve the health and well being of the communities and connect/introduce a community group to a business, bridging, mediating and facilitating multi-cultural understanding.

Education background: Business or social sciences

  Z3 V, P& v8 M VOLUNTEER DATABASE DEVELOPER
The role of the Volunteer Database Developer is to create an information bank using a computer base system, storing information already collected trough a community mapping in the inner city as well as organize community meetings in each one of 10 inner city neighbourhoods to introduce the database and encourage residents to phone our organization when ever they need.

Education background: Computer Science

3 X$ \+ z) G$ R4 Q  F3 GQUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL:
1.        Full-time college or university student, under 30 years of age before and after the position and not attending full-time classes while participating in their placement.
2.        Legally entitled to work according to relevant federal and provincial legislation and regulations
3.        Good organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
9 E- k; q3 A9 Z& h# K$ n& X4.        Team player and also able to work independently.  Able to deal proactively with change and achieve goals through coordination with other people.
