Edmonton... Starting September 1, changes to training benefits will help thousands of full-time students receiving income support earn more money while they are attending training programs.& |) O( `1 y; C2 j, O# _
; g! ^4 }( F: J' t"Allowing students to earn more while they learn will be welcome news for students receiving training through the Alberta Works program," said Iris Evans, Minister of Employment, Immigration and Industry. "Both the increased bursary amounts and the unlimited earning potential will help students by providing more resources that ultimately encourage them to successfully complete their program, while remaining connected to the labour market."/ t* `3 F1 ]$ J: b" L6 F
/ j; n: L7 Q! I' }1 g8 v/ P4 eThe changes will increase accessibility to full and part-time training by increasing the amount of money students have available to help them meet expenses.

1 m1 ]( a/ F/ EOnce qualified for Alberta Works training, a student's employment income will no longer be a factor in determining their benefit rate. This change will allow thousands of students to supplement their monthly income through work, if they so choose. There are about 20,000 students receiving financial assistance through Alberta Works to attend school in the province.
