* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis/ G9 ]7 p8 C R) x5 k1 f' v/ l: H y
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography V' _! u$ N' p1 W% r* {5 ^
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques- |6 Z/ n% C, ]$ L, b& _+ s
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
6 D4 }4 B$ X" Q' m& k. B$ r * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry( S: M/ B$ @" S' q4 h ^& x6 W
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals" o1 p k" B/ Q) t
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
L: x# b8 H5 G) o * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
8 c5 t6 y# C' R * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)3 Z+ M. V2 Q( a$ w7 O7 c
! i4 p: o/ l8 s- u DQualifications
# J0 j1 |" d. O. x6 K5 x3 w% L# o( Y0 _" l. V
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
2 a1 K4 {* r) n8 F * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)5 n# C5 b1 O8 i2 `- }/ e9 s
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel: w0 R' b( k: [/ m, t
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
; K: o( ?+ Z+ r1 i9 j * Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment
