3 \# l- u5 K$ C7 i" `The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement

Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and4 N5 Z& q, l' q# V: b7 f
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.8 ^9 t; i$ ~5 l* n

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and

Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
+ u" P) d3 m1 J/ ^community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is o6 f9 p7 r& W6 V1 B
required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

Responsibilities
, ]* K! q' v+ N7 u) i; w2 a# _• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
+ ^6 x2 @0 o" s% p• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
" o- _1 X% s8 J/ B. _• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office s5 e1 h6 D, ^9 M3 c
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required' ^% K* K' ?# W. O) d" c
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment! U% R: B+ C4 [. Y
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services- [" u0 H) A5 Q" o% _1 Q- A( z
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
) n* x4 ?8 v( u• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW ; J& [5 }5 z( q3 m% ?
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers# U1 P" n) s- D
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required% [* x% F5 L% e% V& y% u( F+ g
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
8 x3 `$ m/ q: V1 D+ l! Z7 f$ M2 O* M• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
7 S7 |! ?" L6 O/ ~& f3 j• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
3 y. T0 x* a* G1 [0 T: J• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area' ^9 \+ |+ _6 d9 O! @7 |
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
) J( y X" [7 k0 p; o9 l0 e' G• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
$ N2 o, U! f( ~% E- Y- e' x• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
! B/ m" J' J7 W) P• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
0 s& _( M$ C* g R7 h3 V• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
