Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
; L! x  J1 a" _* X! ^% V) l    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
: b- b8 m. A, C. z    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
+ q0 f# s1 k4 t4 z' X8 l3 x* U! T0 k  B    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
3 R0 }8 O  G3 i4 B0 M  b/ r    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
: i$ w7 k/ o3 E: m+ N- @    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs

    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

1 \# c* P4 s) W1 X/ P    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
  S! v1 ?# I8 g( B% Q. C    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
& E# g2 c4 }$ ^/ x    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
1 ^# @* i0 {. I  Q5 ^1 c0 q! S    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
! H7 H( a3 W8 Y$ X! N    * Fundraising skills an asset
  R2 {: H5 S# |, c+ n# x% g- R; D    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
  `5 D: W6 i8 d% Z6 v0 c$ I    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
0 Q; w  v; [: h9 V5 ~4 p5 ?# Q    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
+ k: t; a7 b3 `$ h8 I+ ]7 z1 l    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
