7 P" h' h& O& W$ T& m- ] A. r& cPosition: Caregiver Advisor / Hourly Wage: $30/hr. – This is a 0.8 FTE position at 30 hours per week / Closing Date: October 11th 2009. Context: a caregiver is a family member or friend who provides unpaid care for someone (usually a loved one) living with challenges due to disability, illness, or age. If you are not already a caregiver, chances are you will either be one or need one. The Alberta Caregivers Association helps make caregivers’ lives less difficult through information, education, support, networking, advocacy, and community development.

Position Description: provide a range of social work services to caregivers (your primary clients), including assessment, counseling, planning, service coordination, and referral as appropriate and/or needed; advocate for and build self-efficacy of caregivers, guiding them in navigation/negotiation of the health & social service systems; work closely with professionals in other agencies to provide or coordinate services for caregivers; supervise trained volunteers/staff members delivering peer-based education and support group programming; provide a framework and/or content for a training program that offers professionals, paraprofessionals, students, and/or laypersons the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to work with and for caregivers; and; perform other duties as appropriate and time allows. 7 G I3 b* B& n# t
; q8 m9 G5 Y5 SKey Qualifications: Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Masters of Social Work (MSW); registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (RSW designation) is required. Considerable experience providing social work services for seniors, persons with disabilities, and their families, in hospital and community settings. Vehicle for use during employment with valid operator's license and appropriate insurance. Experience and cultural competency working with multiple ethnic groups. Sound knowledge of community resources and service providers in the Edmonton area. Personal experience with family caregiving and/or demonstrated commitment to helping caregivers is a definite asset.
