Restructuring & Government Efficiency , Edmonton - Our team, Server Operations, is responsible for supporting, operating and maintaining the cross-Government shared server environment for all Government Ministries. Our focus is on providing server hardware and operating systems support to meet the complex needs of a vast number of clients, while maintaining stability and reliability for the services being provided. We are now looking to expand our team by adding another skilled server support analyst.

6 w$ O, t; i) O# R" y" k- uAs a Server Support Analyst, you will help us maintain a complex environment which currently includes Windows, Solaris, AIX, HPUX, Linux and z/OS - running on hardware from HP, IBM, Sun and Fujitsu. The focus of your position will be around Windows Server 2000 and 2003, with the potential for some involvement in one or more of the other platforms. 3 m' b ]) X1 [

You will be responsible for fulfilling a variety of roles. Your primary function will be to provide daily server support. This means you will be configuring, racking and installing server and server related hardware, loading and configuring standard OS images on servers, and supporting and using various server related software products used in the environment - such as server antivirus tools, patching tools, and server virtualization software.

Our team provides a 24-hour service for our clients. Therefore, you will also be involved in providing duty analyst support and 24/7 on-call. The duty analyst and 24/7 on-call role requires responding to hardware and software alerts, responding to service desk requests and problems as well as providing support to other support groups and clients. This responsibility is covered on a rotational basis. W( L7 q! e/ B% G9 k+ [
* F, t" S* g+ {# |: CFinally, you will also be involved in projects requiring server-based services. Participation means assisting clients in determining appropriate solutions for their requirements, documenting the required configurations and ultimately implementing those solutions. 7 k8 B# o+ O9 T' X+ I: e

Qualifications - To be successful in this role you will have:
% D0 q" h" t+ y% ^8 k( s$ r- A University degree or College diploma in a computer related field plus a minimum of two years related experience
. {6 ]( F& |7 P3 ?- Experience in loading Windows Server 2000/2003 images on both real hardware and under VMware using a Ghost/sysprep process 9 n# Z3 Y- w) U1 |, V7 k4 o( g
- Some experience configuring and preparing Windows Server 2000/2003 images (preferrably running on an HP/Compaq hardware platform) for production use % Q2 x9 g H R7 i( r* o
- Experience in managing and supporting a server once in production + w y. b% V7 J$ `
- Proven organizational, planning, estimating and communications skills, and well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
