of the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
8 i' e& d& N) D! ?within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color( [5 ^; ~/ e( P6 ^
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
8 N) ~7 U5 E; m0 ain low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800" [. g# f3 ~+ j; w8 L% u. |/ o
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
) Q6 ?6 P: |: o* ~: `$ u5 Twithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography) ?. _3 D% C$ }5 w c& C- C
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum: D1 a) O7 M( P* }/ A( H% L
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was- j* ]# ^! Q# F) s. Q! P7 D% U$ }
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and( Y2 [0 Q5 d) i7 s* F6 D- c; S
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
V5 q% M) y# d# G- u ? n* Jbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
- ?" }! m( Y% }( k4 ~% }thanks to the D800.6 |& p5 w6 `2 c9 h2 u1 z$ U( S" U
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
1 {& C [) M7 x, e36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic. M& S& u. t$ P& B) ~- A0 q$ E
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces/ _2 J3 ^" E; @: T' a3 Q
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a6 `0 E o& x5 F' F
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
5 v5 L$ q# f5 ~well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
& A7 }( C& q2 ?* s8 n# Y' cAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor4 q0 `' y( l3 f+ b& H
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is1 q/ r0 i* k$ B# D2 [
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while, D+ P6 e2 z5 e* Q9 d. F; n5 I
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New& _* Q/ P1 O6 K; x, e
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features9 i% w$ u, w. W4 p/ U
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality. Z$ a+ z2 r) I& J, k
prints and video.
% [5 W4 K+ u4 H( G ]# tTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is1 F; M8 h% Z: T+ s
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models# l# C+ _" _$ b
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using d h1 ` m/ g4 L0 M
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
e% {) E" O$ G+ U8 J" ?& X% dsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
9 J4 V% R3 U5 u# Ulike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of6 R# T) F: C# [ B4 z+ t7 x" j
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I% m! } ~& |' d, t5 i
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
1 D8 Z. M1 K& J B1 l$ | uthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse9 o$ i0 ^" N' g4 C
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add) s, o x' \# q0 b
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
8 H# m+ I$ e/ N( V% `D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,7 S/ s- D: V# }' t
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal3 C& t: @2 G' ?8 [' p
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for; Y; s: E+ F, E7 q) `
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
% ^2 z- Q+ N% _camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till" w+ ], p( E7 s
now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions* }. i9 L6 E6 Z* K1 V7 D! A; T0 b
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
+ }. N4 w+ Q8 c. jquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for' U7 |2 d$ b) k" v- G- E- K
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
/ e F6 V* ]+ dperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly3 V0 F$ T" Q5 I7 M
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
8 ]& ~, @* c) r% C( X8 Sto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
& m! A" q3 j3 U# V8 b% L: E' W0 j, V/ orange of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality) y. i# a9 P! s* [5 v8 D
to a new level. What a new companion!
