1 d/ |. i6 s1 u2 RHis wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. & K: i7 K& f. |* }0 ~
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home,
$ ~2 {1 [, b, Uhe smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

4 f9 h" [# P! M) s ^8 @; ~As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
; _! _" y$ h" `, t; [5 R, a4 R$ Bdescription of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been
3 W! |2 O* a6 c- [$ O O( M, F0 Shung on his window. 8 d+ b4 h7 k2 c5 Q# }

"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having ) Z) O& Y% T4 ^) W3 p8 x. i
just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait." ' m! `$ ]/ q9 T

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied. % ^. A N( [/ J; d$ v5 C

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my 1 Z- E, _7 w% U2 v- |
room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how
+ E( z' T8 U% k5 CI arrange my mind. I already decided to love it."

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. ; p0 z5 f2 d9 i9 `
; @* r$ U3 q$ J" y5 U' GI have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I + @6 W0 A( j( L- k* g0 R6 ?. ]5 `
have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed
7 L P) F3 f0 t. _% M+ O5 s' zand be thankful for the ones that do.

3 O* V. H$ x- s3 {2 yEach day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
: h8 h! S6 t& O# e, pday and all the happy memories I've stored away.
