I had earned 65000 before and now at 82000.  The different in take home pay is from 1560 biweekly to 1989 biweekly.  There are so many deduction from your pay cheque and after all you need to paid GST when buying stuff and services.

The only major different is the amount that you can contribute to your RRSP if you earn 40000 you will have much less than 60000 to save in RRSP.  If you start working at 25 for about 30 years at 55 you should have a lot different in RRSP saving.

For 40000 to 60000, you will not have a lot of money left each month.  I need to use my Airmiles for travel each year and aeroplan miles also for long distance.

It depends on your first job and I was lucky to be employed by Government as a professional in the first place and it was a good start with what they call "LOCAL Experience"  Without local experience, there is almost no chance for you to get a position.  They do not want to train people when hiring.

Look for Government Job first as their are the one promoting the employment of foreign trained immigrants.  Get enough experience and familize with all standards, regulations and codes then you can go out to find your new job.  Government pays less compare to private.  As a senior manager in the Government you only start with 65000 and in private you can get 80,000 to 100,000.
