  }1 o& z* {& R& q# S/ NTORONTO (CP) - CI Financial Income Fund (TSX: CIX-UN.TO) nearly doubled its first-quarter net income to $142.1 million, as the mutual fund company increased its assets under management by 15 per cent over the comparable period of 2006.

! u7 _& }# p- _* |0 tThe net earnings for the three months ended March 31, 2007, amounted to 51 cents per unit. The comparable number for 2006 was 26 cents per unit or $73.1 million for the three months ended Feb. 28, 2006.

# B1 ^# o6 p: ?3 o6 S; dCI changed its year-end to Dec. 31 from May 31 when it converted to an income trust in June 2006. The year-earlier comparable for the first quarter is the three months ended Feb. 28, 2006.

Assets under management rose to $64.5 billion as of March 31, up from $56 billion at the end of February 2006.

As at May 9, 2007, CI's assets under management totalled $70.3 billion, up a further 10 per cent, due to three recent acquisitions.
These new assets included $3.7 billion in assets at KBSH Capital Management Inc. and Lakeview Asset Management Inc. and $9.8 billion of administered assets at Rockwater Capital Corp.
