Yes, I am a student at U of A. I took 140 and 145 before. They are very hard and different from TOEFL. I suggest that you'd better pass TOEFL exam and then come to Canada. Although the letter said you come firstly and take an English exam. That means they will test your english level, and then put you in right class. You might be sent to 120 class, or 135 0r 140. The session for 100 to 135 is two monthes, adn for 140 and 145, they are four monthes for each one. You learn TOEFL in New oriental school is good point, but it is not promised that you will improve your English such as speaking , writing and listening. They just tell you how to take exams. Esl 140 and 145 test you how to write excellent essay. No grammer exams on that course. The first part is Reading, and Listening and Writing. Such as this kind exam, you have nothing to prepare and it only test you real english leavel, not like Toefl, only use one month and you can get good marks. No, it is totally different with ESL. Individually, ESL 140 and 145 are very helpful for my writing in University life. Some of my friends, although they pass the TOEFL exam, they are suffering in writing English such as papers.

So if you really want to save time and money, go to U of A earlier, you'd better pass the TOEFL in China. If you really want to improve your English and do not want to go University, you can take ESL and enjoy English class and Canadian culture. Again, different people have different purposes. Just do what you want. ; t) m- l9 k1 F8 K% _; [ _: D
