The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. " S! p, W' k& X

Responsibilities include:/ h6 I7 i) j; I& C4 I( h' f

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
( H# i$ F' H/ k% P$ e* R& ]' r. a• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
! k9 l# Q, V! ^) V0 B4 V• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
7 [9 ]) M6 W" a( O: B" K; Z• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored6 B2 S3 P9 D# v/ _' W
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals8 L1 V0 E/ I8 B8 B! d
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

3 I' ?2 D/ {& m6 S. c7 I2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
9 T& a8 m4 h% B4 P3 l• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
; W4 w9 J$ F! k• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 6 @8 b% R' \4 G) A
9 ]% b5 C0 A! l2 B. P0 r0 B0 kCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. 9 J" E' t [# }! L$ D, v0 @

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.5 @0 o' c1 t- ^% ?! l/ o7 Y" o
