这是雨水桶。不知道跟大家买的一样不一样。听说有用大啤酒桶做雨水桶的，很“靓”。

覆盖前得把菜地翻了，杂草锄了才行吧。我也想沿边开点地种草莓。

楼主，房子可以再里面再做一层隔热的吗？直接放一层drywall，再打墙就行了吗？还是需要特殊的材料。我家的也是老房子，需要保暖处理一下子

+ Y# S( Q" h! @: P: X# R是要先翻地，直接往长着的草上覆盖不行。但是不用把杂草捡出来，把地整整平，盖上报纸，报纸上再压上土。听说有用杂志的。

" k7 y/ p$ c: k! j3 h+ @报纸杂志遇水腐烂，其含有的油墨和制造纸浆的化学物质不会散去，如果用于种花没有问题，要是种菜被作物吸收后就归你了，别的不知道，但肠胃癌症悄悄自来。

试验：取报纸一种，放入搅拌机加水，搅拌打碎后滤掉纸屑，品尝水的味道如何？

. u- ]. _9 h0 I6 \Some custom built houses did double drywalled.  You can also cover the exterior walls with a layer of sterofoam (not sure about this spelling) to better insulate your house. Double drywall  may offer only a little bit higher RF value.

By Canadian Building Code that more than 20 years house did not ask put poly insulation between the drywall when it was built and also did not have air barrier., heat will lost more in winter than new material house (20 yrs before no one think green house plan)

All the new material you can get in Home Depot, and you only need is money.

4 y7 W- {4 A3 D2 H& F$ gThe attached is a picture I took at the Eco House during the garden tour. Is the funtion of news paper here mulch to remove weed seeds in soil?  

Yes, it appears the gardener is trying to smother a perennial root system like Quack Grass or Canada Thistle.  The root system will try to get through the thick paper layer and exhaust itself.  In the case of Quack Grass, the roots will grow up into the layers of paper making them slightly easier to remove (they are tough!) and kill.

If that, will the printing chemicals in newspaper leach (or transfer) into soil?

Once a chemical is created it will be around for quite a while, so yes, the chemical inks will transfer into the soil.

I remember that newspaper can be used in compost.

It is a useful Brown for many applications..

Do you think that compost can be used in vegetable garden?

7 n8 Q( J; E0 J: Y0 y$ J/ ~6 CYes, the chemical based inks are non-toxic and in minute amounts - you would absorb more of these chemicals by simply handling the paper than by composting it.  This is a very very small concern in the grand scheme of things - taking the time to use newspaper in the way shown in the photograph is good exercise and will ultimately be better for your health than not doing it.
