FUNCTIONS:  Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

·       Cleaning manholes and sewer lines, clearing sewer blockages.Digging holes and trenches by hand.

·       Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

·       Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.

·       Landscaping, irrigation, and horticulture.

·       Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.

·       Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

·       Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

·       Assisting in the installation and removal of traffic control devices along with road markings.

·       Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

·       Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

·       Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

·       Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

·       Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.

·       Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.

·       Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.

·       Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.

·       Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools.

·       Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

·       Team player & self-motivated.

·       Possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.

·       Pesticide Applicators - license an asset.

HOURS OF WORK:

Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.

SALARY RANGE:

10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $14.10 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City. Work Location: Kinsmen Sports Centre

FUNCTIONS:

Community Services requires an individual to perform Labourer I duties at the Kinsmen Sports Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

·       Setting up for meetings;

·       Put up and take down of tennis, badminton and volleyball nets;

·       Cleaning and maintenance of pool and deck areas,

·       General cleaning of the facility;

·       Snow removal;

·       Effective customer service;

·       Supervision of user groups;

·       Seasonal playground and Park maintenance

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

·       Completion of the eighth (8th) school grade or equivalent.

·       Possession of a Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License and eligibility to obtain a City driver's permit.

·       Successful candidate will be required to operate a City vehicle and must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.

·       Standard First Aid, CPR and WHMIS training are also required.

Note: A security clearance is a condition of employment. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Security Clearance letter from the Edmonton Police Department.

HOURS OF WORK:

4 – 39 hours per week. Typical shifts are: 4:00 p.m. to midnight, 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Weekend and shift work required.

SALARY RANGE:

10M, Salary Grade: 063, $14.11 - $19.56 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
