surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& }; [! o: J/ Fexecution of the YWCA Strategy
6 W/ N$ I: H! C$ |, G ; j0 K" Y! v# U" X* ^1 d% ~' r  m
Specific responsibilities include:  , I; ^: L4 o( F

; [7 h% V, ]+ K•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of & E% z* j: \) s1 v
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
  h) J7 V9 X* U" `the Board of Directors;  
, K: ]! F) h7 d* j2 d( S•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 Y; c/ b  e9 J$ t6 c* jincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to " r: F! U4 D( p& R+ w
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
" ]9 T, W/ j7 z4 I. r- v: O5 R•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 8 {, l* I. @0 k+ I
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 9 m5 R! `- X9 x/ `; h6 L; K" D
the board;  4 Z0 s- Y  T& x. @& c4 J# V* \
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
; n8 W& z9 z  E  F# F•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion % V" J; Y+ Y% Z* L1 e
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
) [) C6 M$ X7 s! B) O$ J! o1 q•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the # L1 d) R0 i: a  |) w
changing needs of the organization and community;
0 p8 p4 Z' a3 {0 B/ W4 i4 D•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
1 g+ E8 S- I! |/ E7 I; l8 L4 X6 lcommitments;
. ^" ~  b. c& J: _: d0 Y•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ; f1 I/ i3 Z/ u$ v3 k; r
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 6 h/ w5 ^5 G0 S9 _. P
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
0 _, k: L+ ~) x  J% p•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
" U7 D: ]  ?) _6 C6 u1 F5 U& l•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
  P8 c( x2 N- X" meffectively and positively represent the association; 8 `5 E  K! g# @' Q4 x( \
# A, I7 ^2 W7 H3 I3 f9 E  x( f! C' C
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
% f/ c' U. X1 e) q4 A* Dthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 s; p; u, v. Q6 j! n•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal + H- |; N$ ~; g
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
9 k" S6 @( b1 Z$ N0 P2 K; p/ A& {the forthcoming year;  7 V# I' K, F1 h0 M/ ?2 o
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 O0 H0 q% b6 ]5 a1 d* Jpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ' a% \! g5 P, Z0 O6 A5 F
YWCA Canada; and
9 K) W/ G  D$ U( t3 C•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
  H" p0 ^/ z! V* f& m" m5 eForces.  , b% j9 H  R* S6 U$ \" q$ @2 X

Required Skills & Abilities ( F0 A, `3 s, U" ~
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
+ j8 i$ |! J/ d5 h1 m/ D•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
$ ?: W8 \! u, m' Z4 l5 Q2 N% garound decisions, plans and actions;
3 V' y, }  }2 q# Q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& |/ e- D; b1 D% h3 H•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 c6 O+ J9 F* V5 y% t3 H) C- Xand achievable with realistic timeframes;
/ A% E( J8 b  ]+ \, X•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
2 S+ V: ^0 ?) Fsimultaneously;
  Q, j/ Y+ z% h; ?2 Q# i0 Z" y& ~•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build + E% S) S4 [8 l" ^/ w
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; / [! U0 u# ?) H7 q+ G
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 q" x- _" j1 f6 S•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification : T0 V0 h% a, }( n
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 5 A! T8 G" V/ \8 F# k

7 y$ C( _1 X( l) O) WRequired Experience   S! z/ f, J; H3 P
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ! a+ q# K7 d- m: T
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ A$ [0 p6 F. `9 Y2 A- uabilities;
2 {% B  Z8 b% @* S. w3 [! S•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
2 c" Y( _& Q) m6 n! rNetworking and Fundraising;
' J8 w; v# I3 I; e& ]# x2 y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting : ]/ w1 [7 L7 u4 `5 u4 O% R/ K
and financial statements; and
4 @# V% A5 g5 l5 K, E2 P( [•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
8 ?$ l$ ^5 o  O) \# u! wcentered perspective. " z# z  n) A1 N7 A% H5 Y
