# [4 q) T s- y/ E, jThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
, w5 L3 Y8 y0 qRoles and Functions' h) p$ H' s+ \
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
) O; t% N b# j# m4 norganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
2 [& S9 A2 R+ w d. B1 Koperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 U" a7 {" l7 S/ rthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, W7 c! ]( |8 e% f! e soperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- _8 q3 W! t: E9 r2 Vboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 S8 U3 }& ~8 j1 R
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 Z* j3 z* c6 h$ v4 S
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; o5 z2 Z$ j7 D
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% T( ]+ [# i9 m9 m% ]all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.8 ` [ c7 w4 R7 A0 d

% s$ G: V8 }7 t( v5 ?' g) Z' SThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:1 \+ K% n: H3 p; i- M8 U. a! ?
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
g9 z% q" G5 o' Lofficers of the Coalition/ L+ W8 F I9 A9 r" ?! q% p/ a+ g
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 d7 {9 g# e# `' N9 A2 b$ K
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
P& v) |7 L3 P! G0 J% z+ Kand public institutions
9 O3 R$ ]6 U( t0 T# y0 i8 h/ [3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
3 H2 m; S2 x8 l8 ] ufunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
, l5 y0 o8 w2 ]3 ~1 v/ Y) D# R, p4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community# k5 o v4 }4 h1 E! s
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community4 Y @% v( P' y

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 l. V4 V( g) r
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
" H d0 E: g5 z. U7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working$ M% j! _: [" t/ b0 ?- p
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

" C/ u/ ?6 t5 S. kAdministrative responsibilities:
# b; S4 [8 B+ n1 \1 }5 W1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its% l% y! w( |' Z3 V
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of& L/ P4 j& G' O9 |- Y9 [$ h
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the; s, k" S1 m0 X# p- I
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.4 S( m; q( j) B" J8 h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 K8 ~ M! w4 L- h4 X2 w

* v6 O; ]3 y# A5 f3 c, OAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to( }9 ?7 y' p! [# L6 d
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating% B/ e, M% N! F z) h
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: t$ P2 o+ g/ o( I$ AThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 G% v0 b) g4 A9 Z% s: D7 h0 T7 R
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should% z( y9 I/ Y2 @5 Z J, V
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 H* G H9 q$ Q, E6 |* v" T
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and. A/ t I- k* Y9 W0 ~6 c
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of/ @1 O- W' c9 y% s- G8 s, ~
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
: B4 @6 @5 Q1 _+ K8 ^: b. bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all- w6 F9 N0 a! u% @+ @+ B8 `: T
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles" H/ V+ n R: y

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

Pay Range & Terms
' ~! K: i p+ iThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
