EDMONTON - A woman is dead after she was hit by a car at a major west Edmonton intersection Saturday evening.: _+ m4 I- A1 h/ c

The woman was 20-years-old, said Staff Sgt. Todd Laycock.( v4 ^! T# q _1 Z& Y
0 @: X2 M' b. X2 qThe intersection at 156th Street and 87th Avenue was shut down after the incident, which happened around 7:30 p.m.

0 L1 e6 `$ e( O6 @1 pWitness Al Wolff said he was southbound on 156th Street when he stopped his minivan for a red light at 87th Avenue.

He watched as a woman, possibly in her 30s, walked in front of his stopped vehicle as she crossed 156th Street from west to east.

When she got to the northeast corner of the intersection, she waited for the light to change, Wolff said. When it did, she started walking south across 87th Avenue and was hit by a westbound car.7 H, }3 R1 ]0 x4 s% Z/ f/ e

“She walked right past me,” Wolff said. “Next thing you see a body fly by. She was lying flat on the ground.”* C6 e1 E6 p, z# P

Wolff said the sun was low in the sky at the time. He thought the driver who hit the woman had a red light. E' ]9 B6 I3 M4 k( d7 T% T2 h

A black shoe and a couple of articles of clothing were lying in the road near the northwest corner of the intersection.
