　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.
' l8 A1 L8 K4 M
　　Both sides of the Great Wall
; X( Q+ M9 J2 r7 z" _( x7 G. l
　　One single white immensity.
$ h. _3 b7 e* L! C" p
　　The Yellow River"s swift current
5 |( h7 m3 o; F! c* g1 E
　　Is stilled from end to end.

+ N3 b5 D' a. Z; c　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
; Y: f$ v' H6 f4 e. X
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

& ~, f) F* y* b　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,
  G$ t. x3 {2 ~6 {+ m- M
　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

% Z( o  C9 M4 G" F. k" f　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

6 ^6 x$ ]7 g: f　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
